Suitable positions and accommodation for Orchids plants
You can keep orchids on windowsills, picture windows, in a conservatory and greenhouse, each position being ideal for a specific orchid species.
Windowsills
An east or west facing window is perfect for orchids as it receives optimal amounts of light. Make sure that there is no radiator underneath the windowsill as the warm air it produces may dry out the orchid. Orchids that thrive in a windowsill are Cattleys, Mini Cymbidia, Odontoglossum and Phalaenopsis.
Orchids in hanging containers
Hanging containers such as those made of wood are eye-catching when they are populated with orchids with hanging roots. Grid containers can be hung in a window making it possible to use other available space for other orchids. Brassavola, Coelogyne and Oncidium look good in a hanging container.
Closed picture windows and glass cases
A micro-climate can be designed which leads to the growth of hard to grow orchids. Temperature elements such as humidity, ventilation and light can be controlled using weather controlling technology. Angraecum species grow well on an enclosed picture window.

Conservatories
They are normally built onto the house and allow easy caring of the orchids when compared to a greenhouse. Temperate orchids can be grown if the conservatory is heatable and if it is cold then cool orchids are suitable.
Orchids such as Coelogyne, Cabidium hybrids and Disa uniflora are better suited for cool to temperate conservatories. Ascocenda hybrids and Cattlya ybrids are ideal for temperate to warm conservatories.
Greenhouses
A greenhouse has got more space and needs to be managed well. Heat, humidity, light and ventilation need to be monitored at all times to ensure that the orchids grow well.
A green house should be built close to power and water supplies. It is also very wise to built it near a tree which has foliage so that it gets shade in summer and light in winter.
Greenhouses allow you to cultivate numerous orchids of the same temperate range by adjusting climatic levels using high technology. There bring the best results but are very expensive.
