Caged Nut Basket
The wire basket is suspended inside an 8 inches x 8 inches x 9 inches steel cage in which there are apertures big enough for smaller birds like tits and finches, but not for squirrels and larger birds. We recently improved the feeder by extending the tube to the bottom of the cage. This means that not only is the capacity increased to over 330g, but birds such as the Greater Spotted Woodpecker, who love nuts but can't get into the cage, can feed from underneath.
