Damaging your lawn the Leatherjacket is the larvae stage of the crane fly or 'daddy-long-legs'. The larvae (white when young, grey-brown when older) feed on grass or turf roots.
Large numbers of leatherjackets can cause the grass to turn brown or yellow - with this unsightly damage made worse by birds ripping up the grass surface as they search for the pest.
The nematode 'Steinernema feltiae' will help to control Leatherjackets.
Supplied as a pack of approx. 50 million nematodes, these will treat approx. 125 sq.yrds (100 sq.mtrs).
Before applying the solution to your lawn ensure it is moist (not waterlogged). Water into your lawn approx. two weeks after adult Crane flies are seen. Continue to water your lawn for the next two weeks, after which time the Leatherjackets should die (approx. 2-3 weeks after application).
Use only between late August & October when adult crane flies are seen.
Please note: avoid applying the nematodes in bright conditions.
